Joe Biden appoints Gary Gensler as chairman of SEC
On Monday, Gary Gensler is picked as chairman of the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) by President Joe Biden.
Gensler is an experienced veteran of Wall Street who has also studied the cryptocurrency field closely and a former Goldman Sachs banker. He is also the former chairman of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and a professor at MIT Sloan School of Management.
He has been a part of Joe Biden’s transition team, looking for financial policy work, and led the Banking and Securities Regulators agency review team.

The former chairman of SEC has left the post on Dec 23 and Elad Roisman was appointed for the remaining days by Donald Trump.
The Biden administration also announced Rohit Chopra as the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau on Monday.
Chopra currently holds the commissioner position at the Federal Trade Commission. HeĀ is known for publicly criticizing Libra, the Facebook-led cryptocurrency project which has since been renamed Diem.
