I am sure you have heard of the term “Altcoin,” What are altcoins exactly? Let us start by answering this question.
Any cryptocurrency that came after the Bitcoin wave is an altcoin, they have different technologies or you can say a better and evolved blockchain system working behind them I.e., better power consumption to mining ratio than bitcoin or a much more secure framework of blockchain contracts in simpler terms. Some of the much popular and mainstream altcoins are Ethereum, Ripple etcetera.
According to some sources, there are more than 9000 altcoin cryptocurrencies in the entire world as of March 2021. Even after being so vast of a library, it still makes only 40% of the whole cryptocurrency market cap. Some experts believe Bitcoin will be dead in a few years of time from now and better altcoins may take over the whole cryptocurrency market. Ethereum is already on the way to prove this statement right by providing much security of an environment and by lowering the power consumption to mine it.
Increasingly influential organizations have started accepting bitcoins and altcoins as a form of payment for the services they have to offer, Government has started to look into the regulation of such digital currencies and payment methods.
